Nina Rissi, the best from Brazil on the 2019 Amateur Championship in Rio

The Brazilian Amateur Golf Championship 2019 has been a success. In its 89th edition, the event organized by the Confederación Brasileña de Golf (CBGolfe) from 4th to 7th of July saw the participation of ten countries and the expansion of the women’s competition, with the dispute of the 1st Elizabeth Nickhorn Cup, in couples in representation of the teams, joining the already traditional 12th Mario Gonzalez Cup, for male couples also by teams.

The EIBGA went there to play in the spectacular Campo Olimpico de Golf of Río de Janeiro, and we enjoyed a magnificent organization- However, the weather conditions were extreme during the first two days, so the competition had to be reduced to 54 holes, as in the next two days there was no time to play more than two rounds.

On Saturday 6th of July all the players completed the second round and on Sunday 7th the final round, defining the champions, with all the results over the course par (71), given the circumstances.

In the individual women’s event, the victory was for the Paraguayan player Maria Fernanda Escauriza with 222 shots (73, 74, 75). The best Brazilian was our Nina Rissi, recently called for the Pan American Games 2019 in Lima, who finished ninth tied with 231 shots (78, 80, 73) and +18. In the men’s event her brother Enrico Rissi played, finishing in 28th place tied (80, 78, 82) with +27.

The Men’s Mario González Cup went to Argentina and the Elizabeth Nickhorn Women’s Cup to Venezuela. Here Brazil, with Nina Rissi (ritgh) and Lauren Grinberg (left), ranked fifth amongst the ten countries, with 457 hits (+41).
